Why Island Adventure Kayaking supports the Crescent Kayak brand.
Island Adventure Kayaking started out as a kayak rental business near Ocean City, MD at Assateague Island State Park. The first year of operation we used the Ocean Kayak Scrambler 11(single) and the Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL(double/tandem). The kayaks were excellent but very expensive. We searched the market for an affordable kayak but did not want to sacrifice quality for our guests. It was at the Miami Boat show, one of the largest boat shows in the world, that we met James Derbecker who manufactured Crescent Kayaks.
We really liked that each kayak was made here in the United States. It was important to us that we bought American made instead of purchasing a cheaper kayak from China. The most important aspect was that the Crescent kayak paddled straight. The full length keel kept the boat tracking well and we felt very stable. Now we thought the Crescent Splash kayak(single) deserved the same price tag as the Ocean Kayak Scrambler 11. It turned out the Crescent kayak retailed for $100 less.(Crescent $400/retail vs Ocean $500/retail)
The next year we had a full fleet of Crescent kayaks including the Splash(singles) and Splash II(doubles). Each guest put the Crescent to the test and everyone had a great time. Island Adventure Kayaking now fully supports the Crescent Kayak brand and is a proud retailer of their products.
Please check out Assateague Island if you are ever in the Ocean City, MD area. It is a great place to paddle and explore the coves. On a daily basis we would get to see some of the 150 wild horses that roam Assateague and the spectacular species of birds. Osprey, egrets, and herons were some of the most popular birds we saw flying above.
